ÉCHOTONE
An ARTIST-RUN SPACE COLLECTIVELY PERFORMED OVER TIME
ÉCHOTONE is an art space dedicated to artistic research, initiated and run by artists. It is a site for experimentation and encounters — a place where time is taken to think, create, and exchange ideas; a space where artistic research becomes embodied and shared as a collective work performed over time.
Each year, the space hosts artists, as well as artist and art critic residencies developed over extended periods ranging from one to three years. This rare feature within the residency landscape allows for flexible and evolving support, making the team and ÉCHOTONE genuine research partners.
The space covers a total area of 130 m², including a large 70 m² main room and workshop facilities dedicated to photography, photopolymer printmaking, and professional presses.
ÉCHOTONE is also the headquarters of two associations: LAAB (Laboratoire Associatif d’Art et de Botanique), founded in 2007, whose collective research focuses on the expressiveness of living beings; and the platform artist-run-spaces.org, initiated in 2013, which develops reflections on archives and the spatial and material dimensions of spaces dedicated to art.
ÉCHOTONE is rooted in the experimental legacy of artist-run spaces, which we conceive as a collective artwork performed over time.
